China Palace: Southwest Parking Lot, Thorndale Red Line
I’ve explored menus from several Chinese food spots in Edgewater, and China Palace stands out as my top choice for its generous portions and affordability. Whether you’re a college student, on a fixed income, disabled or even homeless, China Palace offers a budget-friendly option without compromising on quality expectations for Chinese food.
Their bulk options, like half and full party trays, can easily last a week. Personally, I split a half tray of fried rice, freezing half and refrigerating the other, ensuring I have meals for days. For less than $40, you can get a half tray that keeps you going—especially valuable in these times, when two fast food meals can easily set you back that amount. While the menu leans heavily on rice, it serves as a versatile base to combine with other ingredients, making meal planning even easier.
If you’re really pressed for money, a simple and filling option is gravy and rice. During hard times over a decade ago, I found this combo kept me fed without breaking a hole in my pocket.
The dine-in experience is modest, with just a few tables and chairs. While tipping is always appreciated, (in this establishment: by the register), it’s not expected. Just be courteous and clean up after yourself.
Staff are also very attentive and appreciative of business. They worked with me on a number of levels, from getting my total cost to fit what my card would avail to making sure the food was double foiled so I can carry it home, on foot. Enough said in this photo, the food made it without a spill.
They also provide a fax number which is ideal in situations where you are ordering a lot of food and want to make sure they make exactly what you want. I’ve ordered via fax before. Usually a restaurant will call you back requesting credit or debit. Yes, fax is under rated. I have a dedicated line for faxing, for many reasons that is safer and more effective way to communicate depending on the need or target.
Also, China Palace handles their own delivery. No smartphone required—just call and request delivery to your door.
